NCBA Coronation Cup & Bendor Trophy Set for this weekend at Nakuru Golf Club

he Nakuru Golf Club is gearing up to host the highly anticipated NCBA Coronation Cup and Bendor Trophy this weekend starting Friday, May 31 to Sunday, June 2.

The tournament has attracted a total of 96 elite amateurs, including 10 talented ladies, 2 Ugandan, and 2 Rwandese players, who will battle it out for the tournament’s top honours and valuable rankings in both the World Amateur Golf Ranking and the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship Ranking.

In addition to the main event, the subsidiary Bendor Trophy has attracted over 70 golfers who will test their skills on the picturesque, yet challenging par-72 course. This event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, adding an extra layer of excitement to the golfing weekend.

Notable competitors in the NCBA Coronation Cup include Elvis Muigua and John Lejirma, who are locked in a tight battle for the top spot in the rankings. Lejirma is determined to dethrone Muigua and claim the number one position for himself. Also, keep an eye out for defending champion Michael Karanga and rising star Carl Wambasi as they aim to leave their mark on the tournament.

Among the elite ladies competing in the tournament, Naomi Wafula leads the charge, eager to secure her second title in the KAGC series. She will face stiff competition from players like Joyce Wanjiru, Kellie Gachaga, Mercy Nyanchama, and Diana Mbuba, who are all poised to cause a serious upset on the leaderboard.

NCBA Bank and Nakuru Golf Club have generously sponsored the tournament, contributing to Ksh’s prize money pool. 300,000.

Commenting on the tournament, NCBA Group Managing Director John Gachora noted the significance of such tournaments in elevating the standards of golf in the country.

The Coronation Cup and Bendor Trophy tournament has a rich history dating back to 1932. The tournament is part of the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) series and attracts top amateur golfers aiming to earn points for both the KAGC and World Ranking Points.
